February's Songs and Poems

Jesus Loves Me

Jesus loves me, this I know
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong
They are weak, but He is strong.
Yes. Jesus loves me.
Yes. Jesus loves me.
Yes. Jesus loves me.
The Bible tells me so!

Down In My Heart

I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart.
Down in my heart.  Down in my heart.
I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart.
Down in my heart to stay.
And I'm so happy, so very happy.
I have the love of Jesus in my he-ear- art!
And I'm so happy, so very happy.
I have the love of Jesus in my heart!

Oh, How I Love Jesus

Oh, how I love Jesus.
Oh, how I love Jesus.
Oh, how I love Jesus.
Because He first loved me.

I'm a Little Tea Pot

I'm a little teapot
Short and stout.
Here is my handle.
Here is my spout.
When I get all steamed up,
Then I shout.
Just tip me over
and pour me out!

Heart Fingerplay
(from Perpetual Preschool)

I put my hands together. This is how I start.
(Place 'heels' of hands together to form a V)
I curve my fingers right around – and I can make a HEART!
(Curve fingers around, meeting on top to form a heart.)

Pass The Heart
(from Little Hands Fingerplays and Action Songs)
(Tune: Row Your Boat)

Pass, pass, pass, the heart,
Pass it round and round,
Pass, pass, pass the heart.
Now place it on the ground!

Sit in a circle. Pass a heart pillow or paper heart around. Sing fast or slow!

Dancing Streamers
(from Toddler Theme a Saurus)
(Tune: Frere Jacques)

Dancing streamers, dancing streamers
In the air, in the air
We can make them fly
Dancing in the sky
Dancing streamers, dancing streamers.

Ahead of time, make ribbon streamers for each child by tying several 3 foot sections of pink, purple, and red ribbon together in the middle. Have the children hold the streamers by the knots.

Ring Around the Rosie

Ring around the rosies.
A pocket full of posies.
Ashes, Ashes, we all fall down!

Picking up the daisies,
Picking up the daisies,
Ashes, Ashes, we all stand up!

    Five Little Monkeys

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed.
One fell off and bumped his head!
    Mama called the doctor
    and the doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"

Continue with 4, 3, 2, 1, and then for the last verse...

Five little monkeys tucked in their bed.
    Mama turned out the lights.
    And nothing more was said.

    Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes

    Head, shoulders, knees, and toes
    knees, and toes

    Head, shoulders, knees, and toes
    knees, and toes

    Two eyes, two ears,
    a mouth, and a nose!

    Head, shoulders, knees, and toes
    knees, and toes!

    Going to the Doctor's Office
(Tune: Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee)
    (Words by M. Hubbard)

Oh, I'm going to the doctor's office today.
Won't my mommy be so proud of me.
I'll open up my mouth nice and wide
and let the doctor shine the light inside.
    Ahh,aaah,aaah,aaah,aaah,aah

Oh, I'm going to the doctor's office today.
Won't my mommy be so proud of me.
I'll take deep, deep breaths so that he
Can listen to the lungs inside of me.
(take two deep breathes in and out)

Oh, I'm going to the doctor's office today.
Won't my mommy be so proud of me.
He'll listen to my chest with a stehescope
He'll hear my heartbeat Plope, plope, plope, plope, plope, plope!
(tap chest as you say 'plope')

Oh, I'm going to the doctor's office today.
Won't my mommy be so proud of me.
With the audoscope he'll look in my ear
It doesn't hurt so there's nothing to fear.  (cup hand around ear as though listening)

Oh, I'm going to the doctor's office today.
Won't my mommy be so proud of me.
I'll step up on the scale and he'll weigh me.
He'll measure too to see how tall I be.
(move flat hand up to act as though measuring height)

Oh, I'm going to the doctor's office today.
Won't my mommy be so proud of me.
I'll hold out my arm and be very brave
    1, 2, 3 pinch! Now it's time to give a wave!
(hold up fingers as counting and then jump a little on 'pinch'.
Wave as though saying goodbye to the doctor.)

    Wash Your Hands
(Tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat)

    Wash, wash, wash your hands
    Get them good and clean.
    Rub and scrub.
    Scrub and rub.
    Germs go down the drain!

    Cough or Sneeze
(Tune: Mary Had a Little Lamb)

When you have to cough or sneeze,
cough or sneeze, cough or sneeze
When you have to cough or sneeze,
    Cover your mouth please!
